2013 MLB Injuries

Derek Jeter | Sports Events and Info

Baseball can be a painful and dangerous sport. There is ample opportunity for injury. Recovery can take a long time and be unpredictable. Here are some key player injury updates for the 2013 MLB season.

Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter is back on the disabled list. The Yankees’ shortstop suffered a strained right quad as he chased out a grounder in a July 11th game against Kansas City. He will be eligible to return to play on July 27, but it is uncertain if he will. Jeter did not play in the first 91 games of the MLB season due to a fractured left ankle.

Andrew Bailey

Red Sox pitcher Andrew Bailey is considering shoulder surgery that would put him on the bench for 12 months. The right-handed closer has been put on the Sox’s 15-day disabled list while he researches his options. The Red Sox have stated that Bailey has “significant damage” to his right shoulder.

Alex Cobb

Tampa Bay pitcher Alex Cobb has been out of action since June 15. The right-hander was hit in the ear by an Eric Hosmer line drive. Cobb left the field on a stretcher and sustained a concession. He is scheduled to start for the Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs on Tuesday, July 23rd. Cobb stated earlier in July in would like to return to the Tampa Bay pitching rotation sometime in early August if possible.

Hopefully Jeter, Bailey and Cobb will get healthy and be able to return to play during the 2013 MLB season.
